A new study found that for four in ten local sellers, Shopee is their only business channel in this economy.

More than eight in ten participating sellers attribute the long-term success of their store not to discounts offered, but to locally tailored shopping experiences.

โ€œIt’s important for business owners to understand that Malaysian shoppers do have motivations beyond price for shopping online. They can create more loyalty and engagement simply by matching their offerings and content with buyer values,” said Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing Campaigns at Shopee Malaysia.

One of the clearest findings of this study is that despite the reopening of the economy, nine in ten Malaysian shoppers still prefer online shopping.

The Intercity feature currently offers more than 15,000 routes. Grab users will be able to purchase bus tickets to over 30 destinations in Singapore from 11 different states and cities across Malaysia.

All government clinics and hospitals under the Ministry of Health (MoH) will soon be accepting cashless payment methods.
This is according to a circular issued by the ministryโ€™s secretary-general Harjeet Singh dated 21 June, which said that the transition will be effective from 1 October.
However, cash payments will still be allowed.
Harjeet said the reasons for going cashless are:
๐Ÿ“Œ Reducing the risk of leakage of public funds;
๐Ÿ“Œ More efficient and smooth counter services;
๐Ÿ“Œ Cutting operational costs and processes; and
๐Ÿ“Œ Reducing the risk of Covid-19 transmission via a contactless platform.
He added that the ministry expects 95% of transactions at its hospitals and clinics to be cashless by the end of the year.

The Dewan Rakyat has passed the Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2022, which seeks to impose a flat 10% sales tax on goods purchased online and delivered to Malaysia by vendors registered with the finance ministry.
The bill was passed with a majority voice vote.
This flat rate will be imposed on low-value goods (LVG) sold online โ€“ that are priced below RM500. This tax rate will be implemented next year.

According to the Ayden Malaysia Retail Report 2022, Malaysian ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ shoppers have above global average expectations for tech-enabled shopping experiences.

The report findings showed that 87% of Malaysian consumers are more likely to shop with retailers that use technology to enhance the customer experience.

It also stated that 81% of Malaysian consumers will abandon a retailer if they have had a bad customer experience, either online or in store.

โ€œMalaysian consumersโ€™ love for tech-enabled, seamless shopping experiences stand out on a global level and the time is ripe for retailers to capitalise on the RM334 billion opportunity in digital transformation,โ€ Adyen Southeast Asia and Hong Kong head of commercial Priyanka Gargav said.

Malaysian retail sales rose 62.5% in the second quarter of 2022 (2Q22) compared with the same period in 2021, reaching a new record level, according to latest figures released by independent retail research firm Retail Group Malaysia (RGM).

RGM attributed the 2Q22 results to three main factors: the Hari Raya festival, relaxation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures and the forced closures of many retail shops in May and June last year.

RGM also said that for the first time since the pandemic, all retail sub-sectors achieved positive growth rates during 2Q22 โ€” surpassing market expectations.

On the back of the strong second-quarter performance, the two retailersโ€™ associations are projecting an average growth rate of 61.7% in retail sales for 3Q22.
